Cart de Frisco

I regret that I didn't have a blog when I ate at this little cart because I wish that I could have posted my initial feelings. The story behind Cart de Frisco is that it is a little food cart (literally a cart, not a truck) that is parked outside of the University of Oregon gate near the Duck Store on 13th. When I attended the UO during my freshmen year, I had always noticed that this little cart was either closed or had a line. They would also participate in the ASUO Street Fair! Sadly, I never had the opportunity to try this deliciously messy food of the heavens until my most recent trip to the good ol' Eug.

So you're probably wondering "why Frisco?" Apparently frisco sauce is made red wine, olive oil, butter, thyme, and salmon bones! I am sure that everyone makes their sauce different, so I am not exactly sure how this specific cart makes theirs.

I went with my friend Carmen, so I knew we had to do the split technique so that we could try more things. I ordered the Chicken Sandwich and Carmen ordered the Frisco Noodle. You can customize how spicy you want your dish to be so I chose spicy and Carmen chose mild.

The prices were phenomenal! As you can see, both of the dishes were $6.50! Carmen and I only ate about half of everything! That's ridiculous, if you ask me. Everything was super tasty and hardy. My favorite dish would have to be the sandwich. I'm sorry, but nothing compares to the euphoric feeling of sinking your teeth into a delicious burger/sandwich and having the sauces just get all of your face and drip down your elbows. There wasn't THAT big of a difference between mild and spicy, but that can change daily. The only thing that could be improved is the flavoring of the noodles in the Frisco Noodle. The container that the food was in was so small that there was no way I could have mixed the sauce from the chicken onto the noodles without it getting everywhere. But that is just my first world rant, I should be happy that they gave me such a large portion!

Anyway, would highly recommend this place, especially if you are on a budget. It is superb as far as campus food carts go!

University of Oregon

If you are in the Eugene area (and I have no idea why you would be), you need to visit the University of Oregon campus. I attended the University of Oregon for one year (Fall 2011-Spring 2012), and let me tell you, the campus is beautiful. The whole ambiance is something worth experiencing. It may not be the most aesthetically pleasing campus, but the vibe it gives off is what gives it life. Walking around the campus by myself after not being here for about a year really made me appreciate the simple beauty of the university.

The "Jesus Loves You" Man's Bike

Among "Frog" and the "LTD Guy," "Jesus Loves You" man is an integral part of the UO experience. He is not one of those "crazies," as far as I know. He's just always on campus with his bright and colorful bike wearing his very religious signs (that people often ignore).

Hamilton: McClain Hall

Ah, good ol' McClain. This was my dorm during my freshman year. So many memories took place in this building. I am very fond of this building and all of the good (and bad) times that took place in it.

Lillis (Business)

Lillis has to be the most beautiful building on campus, and the inside is even more stunning. Love it, and I love that they kept the giant "O" on it. They originally put the "O" on the building for College Gameday so it could be seen in the background. I can proudly say that I woke up at like 4:30 in the morning to be at the College Gameday (for marching band).

Deady Hall

 During my freshman year, I had an 8:30 math discussion class at McKenzie (building right past Deady), so I would always have to walk past this beautiful historic building. There was something about walking back to my dorm after my class, past the looming trees and creepy ol' Deady, that made my mornings very peaceful.

The Museum of Natural and Cultural History

This particular structure is very nostalgic for me because it was my first impression of the University of Oregon when I was still touring the campus as a high school senior. To meet up with our tour group, we had to walk past the museum from the parking lot and I thought this specific structure was so amazing.

Hayward Field

Hayward Field is the field that made Eugene famous because of the Olympic trials. Due to that, Eugene calls itself "Tracktown USA." It is a track runners dream to be able to run on this specific field and I could say it was the view from my room. Very blessed.

Pink Roses

This is just one example, because there are many, of the beautiful flowers that grow on the campus. I never noticed how beautiful the flowers in spring/summer are!

Marching Band Field

This field (used for lacrosse), was where I spent my Wednesday and Friday nights during fall term for marching band. I wonder if my blood, sweat, and tears are still saturated in the astroturf...When I saw this field I felt really nostalgic because this is where I first met all of my band friends during the two-week band camp. I didn't have any other friends up because it was before school actually started, so I was forced to bond with completely new people. When I see this field, I see all of the friendships I have made, dedication, and inner strength. The human spirit really is a powerful thing, isn't it?

Alton Baker Park

Since I have been back in Eugene, I knew on the one day of sunshine and happiness, I had to take a walk through Alton Baker Park. Alton Baker Park is a HUGE park with biking and running trails. It's actually really neat and very relaxing (and kind of dangerous at night, so yeah, just don't). There are a lot of beautiful plants and weird people just chilling on the banks of the Willamette River.  The reason why I love this bike trail is so much is because it fills me with so much nostalgia of when I use to be a student at the University of Oregon. Imagine walking through a forest and then all of a sudden you see this:

Autzen Stadium

 For those of you who don't know, this is Autzen Stadium, home of the Ducks football team. I spent pretty much every Saturday and Monday night of my fall term in this stadium because of marching band. As much as I loathed it at the time, I am really glad that I decided to stick with marching band. I was able to experience so many things, such as road trips, the Rose Bowl, and just the overall hype and energy directed towards the football team.

There are a lot of bridges in Alton Baker Park, almost to the point where I would get completely confused as to where I was. I enjoy going on the bridges and snapping photos of the beautiful Willamette River (which is apparently something you don't want to swim in).

Willamette River

While my friends were exploring the forests of Alton Baker Park, we found a big pond with geese everywhere. Now, I am not very fond of birds but I have to say the goslings were pretty cute. Well, cute until they all started chasing after us.

I love the nature of Oregon and how easy it is to just bike or run (not like I do either). Alton Baker Park in specific is huge and makes for a really nice stroll when the weather permits. This is something I  missed dearly about Oregon, the ability to just wander and lose yourself in nature.
