Barbecue

Okay, I know this isn't exactly a destination, but this is something I definitely recommend doing if you are in Oregon. I am not sure what it is what it is about Oregon, but the air just feels so crisp and clean. Hawaii's air may be clean, but it doesn't have that "fresh" feeling because it's so muggy! On my most recent trip, I was blessed with the opportunity to have an outdoor barbecue! Prior to this, I had no idea what to expect because I had never been to a barbecue in oregon, but boy was a I blown away!

First of all, this person's house was located pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Somewhere between Eugene and Junction City. Their house was literally right near a forest, so it was surrounded by trees. The first thing I noticed, once escorted to the backyard, was the beautiful fire pit! The smell of burgers on the grill, the tingle of the chilly evening air, and the beauty of the fire warming me up all over is certainly a sensation I won't soon be forgetting.

Fire pits aren't something we really have in Hawaii, so I really appreciated this beautiful sight. My new favorite sound, is the sound of a crackling fire.
I wasn't initially going to eat because I was still full from having a ginormous pancake for breakfast, but I thought, "heck, I am only going to be at an Oregon outdoorsy party once, right?" That was definitely the best decision. The fact that we were eating cheese burgers by a giant fire made the ambiance that much better.

Lastly, what's a bonfire without roasting smores? Unluckily, my chocolate didn't melt! Boo! But it was still so delicious! We even had the professional metal rods to roast them (because usually I would just use a ghetto chopstick). Definitely need to work on my smore makin' skills.

If given the opportunity to have an outdoorsy food experience in a forest in Oregon, take it! Unless you live in Oregon, this is kind of hard to come by. Not sure if the "feeling" is different in every state, but I genuinely enjoy the vibe of having one in the middle of a lush Oregon forest. I have never felt so at peace.
